This is a somewhat neutral and factual article on likely Google Pixel book specs, but what surprises me so far is that the tech media isn't catching on to the huge impact that Android apps on the Pixelbook will have on the market.

This is, after all, at least half of the reason that it is not called a Chromebook - it may or may not run the rumored "Andromeda" OS straight away, but clearly the mobile phone-scaled storage options prepare the unit to handle all of what you do on your mobile plus all of the desktop goodness of a Chromebook.

Think about it - that is what MSFT is trying to do with Surface laptops, but with nowhere near the mobile app mojo that Google can supply. - and Pixelbook will offer lower price points for comparable storage.and likely better processor power and screen res.

The spec list includes a "smart" stylus option, which is also a nod towards Surface users. This means that the Pixelbook OS will enable Google to compete with Surface at many price points below this premier model. Basically, the is going to be a killer model for Google-oriented Enterprise users to annoy MSFT mightily. And Apple? Do we really care anymore? Seriously.

When we got the Model S 4+ years ago, we offset the increase in our monthly electricity usage simply by switching 90% of our home's light bulbs from incandescent to LED. That's the order of magnitude a lot of people will be dealing with...far less than they tend to expect.

Absolutely agree with Ron Amadeo on this one.

Absolutely agree with Ron Amadeo on this one. No matter how technically impressive Apple's implementation of Face ID might be, it's still inherently a less reliable and slower alternative to using a fingerprint sensor. And as it also carries all the same problematic properties as a biometric form of authentication (tl;dr: you only have one face, so if Face ID is compromised, you will never be able to change it, also you can easily be forced to unlock a device with your face) it's not even an improvement in that respect.
So let's not be fooled by Apple's announcement: The real reason they did this is because they couldn't get the fingerprint sensor in the display working in time for the iPhone X - that's it. (similiar to the situation around the Samsung S8/Note8)

And another manufacturer commits to electric.

The fact is that your future car(s) -- if not your next, then the one after that -- will have at least one electric motor driving the wheels. And increasingly likely, it won't consume a drop of gasoline.

While saving over $60,000 on fuel and maintenance is a substantial economic win, we feel the bigger win is that this car is ready for another 900,000 miles over the next 6 years under its current warranty. A gas car with 300,000 miles would be near the end of its useful lifespan.
