Android Pay teams up with Visa and MasterCard, bringing Android Pay to hundreds of thousands websites

Android Pay teams up with Visa and MasterCard, bringing Android Pay to hundreds of thousands websites

Android Pay users will soon be able to pay on hundreds of thousands of new sites where Visa Checkout or Masterpass are accepted using their preferred device authentication method - like fingerprint recognition. No longer will users have to remember multiple usernames and passwords in order to checkout, saving them time and hassle.

My iPhone experiment is now over.

Originally shared by Juhani Lehtimäki

My iPhone experiment is now over. I'll post couple of thoughts to this collection still after I get back to normal routine with my 6p.

One thing that made me think is that if I were to move to iOS permanently I'd have to fiddle with a lot of apps to get my accounts over. Many (I'd even say most) apps that offer Google login on Android do not do so on iOS. While some of the apps offer a migration path via setting a password and starting to use that to login some do not offer any way for me to get my account to iOS if the account is tied to Google. That is pretty scary...

I hate creating usernames and passwords to apps. In fact, I often just uninstall an app if it doesn't support using Google (or some other) login mechanism. On Android I've been using Google login for every app it is available but what I didn't know was that I've been also locking myself to Android with that.

I wonder what has driven the iOS devs not to implement Google login. Is it difficult to implement or just deemed unnecessary?

Here it is - my review of the Pixel XL. Better take some time, the article is pretty extensive ;) tl;dr: Fantastic camera, faster than any other Android phone I've use so far (in real-life usage). Also really expensive. But if you want to go premium: This is the one to get.
Any questions left? Go ahead and ask! :) I'll try my best to answer them!
(Sorry again to the non-german readers...)

A few interesting tidbits about the Pixel (XL)
# Both devices have the smallest number of pre-installed (=non-removable) apps I've ever seen on an Android device: 20 to be exact. Google dropped Android Pay and Play Games from the pre-install set (in comparison to the Nexus 5X / 6P).
# Contrary to what you might have heard Allo and Duo are (strictly speaking) not pre-installed. Google offers you a set of recommended apps to install during setup, which includes those two (and a few others). But you are free to just never install them. Other manufacturers: Take note!
# Also: Hangouts is pre-installed, but disabled for new profiles. (Google needs it for Project Fi)
# Also pre-installed is a package for handling RCS messages - the much touted (and criticized) SMS/MMS successor. So I guess this is coming for real at some point.
# Those are the first devices to handle Direct Boot and it works great. So no more "I overslept because of my Android smartphone spontaneously rebooted"-type of excuses anymore" ;) Btw: After entering your encryption passphrase the device is immediately usable, no more second boot phase.

Google Assistant is going to be an open ecosystem
This is something that was wildly underreported from Google's Pixel event (and yes that includes me, I just got around to write something about it, sorry). Google announced that there will be SDKs for integrating your service into the Assistant but also to build devices that ship the Assistant. Google even mentions the Raspberry Pi as a target platform. So that whole Google Assistant exclusivity talk in regards to the Pixel phones will be history soon enough. The first SDK release should be available at the start of December.
