A few interesting tidbits about the Pixel (XL)
# Both devices have the smallest number of pre-installed (=non-removable) apps I've ever seen on an Android device: 20 to be exact. Google dropped Android Pay and Play Games from the pre-install set (in comparison to the Nexus 5X / 6P).
# Contrary to what you might have heard Allo and Duo are (strictly speaking) not pre-installed. Google offers you a set of recommended apps to install during setup, which includes those two (and a few others). But you are free to just never install them. Other manufacturers: Take note!
# Also: Hangouts is pre-installed, but disabled for new profiles. (Google needs it for Project Fi)
# Also pre-installed is a package for handling RCS messages - the much touted (and criticized) SMS/MMS successor. So I guess this is coming for real at some point.
# Those are the first devices to handle Direct Boot and it works great. So no more "I overslept because of my Android smartphone spontaneously rebooted"-type of excuses anymore" ;) Btw: After entering your encryption passphrase the device is immediately usable, no more second boot phase.
