IMO, Porsche has had an evolving opinion of Tesla.

First, it dismissed Tesla as irrelevant, a hobbyist's niche product of no concern.

Then, it internally wondered if there was anything to these stories about huge performance...something Porsche cares deeply about...while publicly poo-pooing Tesla as a temporary phenomenon.

Now, given how deeply Tesla has eaten into Porsche's sales numbers, and how completely the company is being forced to emulate Tesla, they really have no choice but to publicly admit to Tesla having done what no other company could.

It's good to have some validation, but what would be even better is for Porsche to actually have a full range of EVs in its showrooms. Because that's how Elon Musk wins.
