On 17 August, a burst of gamma rays lit up in space for almost two seconds. It was promptly recorded by Integral and NASA’s Fermi satellite.

Such short gamma-ray bursts are not uncommon: Integral catches about 20 every year. But this one was special: just seconds before the two satellites saw the blast, an entirely different instrument was triggered on Earth.

Kalifornien scheint seinen Vorsprung als Testfeld für autonome Fahrzeuge halten zu wollen. Was vielleicht auch der Lobbyarbeit lokaler Unternehmen wie Alphabets Waymo geschuldet ist.

Eine Option zu schaffen Fahrzeuge ohne menschlichen Fahrer, ja selbst ohne entsprechende Komponenten wie ein Steuerrad in den Verkehr bringen zu können, ist jedenfalls ein großer Schritt, der es endlich ermöglichen wird beim Design solcher Fahrzeuge den Ballast über Bord zu werfen, der dafür bisher noch eingeplant werden musste.

Couldn't agree more with JR Raphael : "I'm just gonna come out and say it: If you're still obsessing over bezels, you've got your eye on the wrong prize." This whole bezel discussion has gotten totally out of hand. People are obsessing on one particular hardware feature that has never ever bugged me in my daily life with the first-generation Pixel. Sure I prefer the look of the new Pixel XL, but is it the most important thing about that device? Not even close. Also in a similar vein: Reviewers (and users) should really stop obsessing about spec sheets, the real interesting stuff in the smartphone space is happening in software (and has for a bunch of years now). Seems like we've basically learned nothing since the times of the Megapixel race...
