Looking at some numbers regarding Google Duo really got me thinking about how far removed "we" (as in "tech press") sometimes are from "real" users. Let me explain with some numbers: Duo has 1 billion downloads on the Play Store so far. Now you might - rightfully - say that it is preinstalled on some devices, so that number is not very meaningful. So let's look at a another number. Duo also has more than three million reviews. Compare this to Gmail (5 Mio) or Google Maps (9 Mio) and you can easily see that it obviously has a quite significant user base. All while those users seemingly really like the app. It's one of the four best-rated (4.6/5) Google apps at the moment. And all while you can barely ever see articles about Duo. tl;dr: There is a difference between what the tech nerds and the IT press are writing about and what most people are actually using. And we should be aware of that.
