Handy updates for protecting your sheets
Sometimes you need to protect a sheet so that other editors can't fiddle with your data or formulas, and protected sheets help you do just that: http://goo.gl/vKTvmi.
There are also times when you want to keep some cells open for editing while the rest are locked, and today's update comes with new, improved protection controls that make that easy.
Let’s say you’re looking to buy a new house. In a mortgage calculator spreadsheet, you can change a few numbers (e.g., price, mortgage rate) and see how those updates affect what you will pay each month. With today’s update, when you share the spreadsheet with your spouse so they can tinker with those specific cells, the rest of your info stays intact. Just click the “exclude certain cells” option when protecting a sheet, choose your range and permissions, and you can rest easy.
